The Huân chương Chiến công Giải phóng was a military decoration established on 23 September 1963 by the National Liberation Front of South Vietnam. It was subsequently retained within the award system of the Provisional Revolutionary Government of the Republic of South Vietnam. The decoration was intended to recognize military units and personnel for meritorious service and contributions in combat operations connected with the liberation of South Vietnam.
The order was divided into three classes: I, II and III, with First Class being the highest grade. Contemporary and later Vietnamese records document its award to military personnel and units for combat actions during the Vietnam War, including operations against American and South Vietnamese forces. The inscription CHIẾN CÔNG GIẢI PHÓNG translates approximately as “Liberation War Exploit.”
It should be distinguished from other similarly named decorations of the National Liberation Front (known as Viet Cong).
