The Soldier of Liberation Order (Huân chương Chiến sĩ Giải phóng) was established on 6 July 1966 by the Central Committee of the National Liberation Front of South Vietnam (Mặt trận Dân tộc Giải phóng miền Nam Việt Nam). It was awarded to cadres and members of the liberation armed forces in recognition of continuous service in the struggle for the liberation of South Vietnam. The order was divided into three classes: First Class for those who had served and fought for 7 years or more; Second Class for 5 to less than 7 years; and Third Class for 3 to less than 5 years. The authority to award the order belonged to the Chairman of the Central Committee of the National Liberation Front of South Vietnam (known as Viet Cong).
