The badge belongs to the Youth Volunteers (Thanh niên xung phong, TNXP), a youth force organized to provide military and logistical support during Vietnam’s wars. Its origins date to 15 July 1950, when, following the directives of Hồ Chí Minh and the Party, the Vietnam National Salvation Youth Union (Đoàn Thanh niên Cứu quốc Việt Nam) established at Núi Hồng, Thái Nguyên Province, the first Central Youth Volunteer Work Unit (Đội Thanh niên xung phong công tác Trung ương), initially comprising 225 members, to serve in the 1950 Border Campaign.
After the Vietnam War, it remained organized within the Communist Party.
