Spain. Badge of the Guardia de Franco of Barcelona.
The Guardia de Franco was a far-right paramilitary organization that existed in Spain between 1944 and 1977, during the Francoist Dictatorship. Formed by members of the «old guard» of the Falangists, it maintained a deeply conservative stance against potential changes within the regime.
Founded in August 1944 as a substitute for the now-defunct Militia of FET and JONS, it was made up of «old shirts,» ex-combatants of the Civil War, and the most fanatical elements of the Falangist youth. The founding decree stated that it would encompass militants «who wish, voluntarily, to dedicate themselves entirely to the service of Spain, of the National-Syndicalist Revolution, and of their Caudillo.» While it was conceived as a militia of the party, in practice it never really acted as such; in its early years, it was better known for its role in repression, cooperating with the Civil Guard in the fight against the Maquis.
