Spain. Briquet Saber for Infantry Troops, Model 1818.
Manufactured in 1825 and used by a Liberal soldier during the First Carlist War (1833-1840).
The hilt is made of a single piece of brass, resembling the French Briquet AN XIII (1804).
The blade is engraved with the motto «Si me sacas da de corte» (If you take me out, it will cut) and the coat of arms of Spain with flags on one side. On the opposite side, you can read «bel II y las Cortes» (Bel II and the Cortes); most likely the full text was «Viva Isabel II y las Cortes» (Long live Isabel II and the Cortes).
On the back edge, you can read «Royal Factory of Toledo, Year 1825,» referring to the year of manufacture.
Total length 81 cm, blade length 67 cm.
Original briquet saber from the Carlist Wars.
