Germany Third Reich. Gendarmerie shoulder boards for Unterwachtmeister (Private first class).
The Gendarmerie carried out police functions in rural areas and used the color orange.
The shoulder boards of the German Police (Polizei Schulterstücke) indicated the rank and unit of the wearer. The Police of the Third Reich was unified under the command of the Reichsführer-SS, Heinrich Himmler, from 1936 onward, and was divided into specialties according to function or field of activity. Based on the color of the shoulder boards, one could identify the corps to which they belonged.
