Order of Military Valour and Merit, 1st Class (Bulgarian: Орден „За военна доблест и заслуга“), a military decoration instituted on 28 May 1974 during the period of the People’s Republic of Bulgaria (НРБ).
The insignia features a golden rampant lion in its centre, the traditional symbol of the Bulgarian coat of arms, against a background displaying the national colours: white, green and red. Surrounding the central emblem is the Cyrillic inscription “ЗА ВОЕННА ДОБЛЕСТ И ЗАСЛУГА”, translated as “For Military Valour and Merit”, surmounted by the initials “НРБ”, referring to the People’s Republic of Bulgaria.
The order was awarded to members of the Armed Forces, reservists and Ministry of Defence personnel for distinguished service, military achievements or contributions to strengthening national defence and security. The 1st Class represented the highest grade of this decoration.
The reverse of this model is generally plain, and the insignia is suspended from a ribbon mounted on a pentagonal suspension, displaying the Bulgarian national colours.
