Order of People’s Freedom 1941-1944, 2nd Class (Bulgarian: Орден „За народна свобода 1941-1944 г.“), a civil and military decoration instituted on 9 September 1945 in Bulgaria to recognize participation and distinguished service in the resistance struggle during the Second World War.
The insignia features a five-pointed star enamelled in red, superimposed on a background of silver-coloured rays. The central medallion bears the profile of Hristo Botev, a 19th-century Bulgarian poet and revolutionary, regarded as one of the symbols of Bulgaria’s national liberation movement.
Surrounding the central medallion is the Cyrillic inscription “ЗА НАРОДНА СВОБОДА 1941-1944”, translated as “For People’s Freedom 1941-1944”.
The order was awarded to both Bulgarian citizens and foreigners who had demonstrated bravery or rendered distinguished service in the partisan resistance and anti-fascist struggle during the Second World War.
